Manchester United are closing in on another signing as talks with Atalanta progress further.

The Red Devils have highlighted four key roles they want to sign to after completing a move for Bryan Mbeumo, namely; a striker, a wingback, a midfielder and a goalkeeper.

In a bid to find the right targets for Ruben Amorim’s squad, United’s recruitment team have been scouring Europe, devising extensive shortlists for each role.

For some time now it’s been considered that Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa is the front-runner to replace Andre Onana as Amorim’s first-choice goalkeeper, however this now might not be the case.

Alfredo Pedulla has reported that talks between United and Atalanta over Marco Carnesecchi have accelerated.

It’s understood that the valuations from both clubs for the keeper aren’t too far off, with United prepared to table a £34 million (€40 million) offer, whilst Atalanta want between £38 million (€45 million) and £43 million (£50 million).

Whilst this leaves a small gap between the parties, it’s reported that a selection of add-ons could see the parties come to an agreement, with Atalanta not holding firm that the core fee has to be their full valuation.

However, one thing the whole deal relies on is United’s ability to sell Andre Onana this summer, calling a time on his career at Old Trafford.

The Cameroon international hasn’t had the best stint with United, with his two seasons in goal being full of problematic performances, seeing the Red Devils record their worst two seasons of the Premier League era.

This season, Onana’s conceded 65 goals in 50 games, only registering 11 clean sheets across all competitions.

As such, Amorim is keeping the door open for another goalkeeper to come to Old Trafford and claim his spot as the starting keeper for The Red Devils.

In comparison to Onana’s stats this season, Marco Carnesecchi has conceded 45 goals in 44 games, registering 18 clean sheets, showing a clear upgrade from United’s current first-choice shot-stopper.
