Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Matheus Cunha, a move that signals the start of Ruben Amorim’s effort to rebuild the squad.
Cunha is expected to take up the ‘left 10’- where his technical ability, ability to produce goals and assist and ability to receive the ball in the half-space will be crucial.
His knack for driving the team forward from deep will elevate United hugely, both in their build up and their ability to manufacture opportunities.
Additionally, reports suggest that Bryan Mbeumo is set to join him United and will likely slot into the ‘right 10’.
Like Cunha, Mbeumo brings serious goal threat and physical presence, improving the team’s dynamism and physical floor, which was an issue throughout the previous season.
While these signings strengthen United’s attack significantly, it’s clear Amorim and the club have bigger ambitions for the summer.
Once the Mbeumo deal is finalised, Manchester United are reportedly targeting additional reinforcements.
A goalkeeper, a central midfielder, a number 9 striker, and a wing-back.
These positions are vital for Amorim’s vision.
As Manchester United pursue these targets, the squad is clearly starting to take shape under Ruben Amorim.
With Cunha and Mbeumo adding fresh attacking options, and new recruits expected in key roles, Amorim is assembling the pieces needed to compete at the highest level once again.
But who are Manchester United looking to recruit in these roles and how will they be used by Ruben Amorim in order to ignite a spark at Manchester United.

Goalkeeper
In goal, Andre Onana’s inconsistent performances last season eroded Amorim’s confidence in his reliability.
As a result, Manchester United have been linked with several alternatives to provide a more dependable presence between the sticks.
Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa has emerged as a prime candidate, though his Premier League form has been somewhat uneven.
Additionally, United are reportedly monitoring Marco Carnesecchi of Atalanta – a young, agile shot-stopper known for his reflexes.
However, Carnesecchi’s valuation may prove a stumbling block in negotiations.
Ultimately, Amorim’s priority is securing a goalkeeper who can be trusted to consistently deliver crucial saves, someone who can gain United points.
Wing-back
Amorim is expected to use Amad Diallo as an attacking right wing-back.
On the left, Patrick Dorgu is likely to play, though whether he is a regular starter is yet to be seen.
Dorgu is extremely talented, but at only 20, United still lack experience and depth in that position and could look to bring someone in.
One option being considered is Brighton’s Pervis Estupinan – a natural left wing-back who offers Premier League experience, technical security and added physicality.
However, wing back is likely the lowest priority of these positions and significant sales will be needed first.

Centre Midfield
In midfield, United are yet to firm up concrete targets, though names like Ardon Jashari, Richard Rios and Hicham Boudaoui have been loosely linked.
Amorim is pushing for an athletic, high-energy midfielder to operate alongside Bruno Fernandes.
Someone who can cover big spaces, press aggressively, and progress the ball through the thirds.
It’s a key role in Amorim’s system, and finding the right profile will be crucial to restoring control and balance in United’s midfield.
Striker
A new number nine is viewed as essential and is likely to be the next signing.
Amorim is seeking a complete striker – someone who can run the channels effectively, link play with strength and intelligence, and, above all, deliver consistent output.
With Cunha and Mbeumo likely through the door, the centre forward could be the final piece that ties the attack unit together.
Will it work?
If the planned signings materialise, Manchester United’s squad could begin to look far more complete – and with that, expectations will rise.
There’s potential for greater balance and dynamism, particularly on the right-hand side where Amad and Mbeumo might develop into a fluid attacking partnership.
Depth would improve, and several of the proposed additions appear to offer better tactical fits.
Questions remain, but the direction is encouraging.
The challenge for Amorim will be adapting his system to make the most of these players and translating potential into consistent performances.
