Following weeks of speculation and negotiations behind the scenes, United’s first major signing has now officially arrived, signalling the beginning of a new attacking era.
The club have confirmed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a contract running until June 2030, with the option of a further year.
United triggered the £62.5 million release clause in Cunha’s contract at Molineux and will reportedly pay the fee over two years after initially exploring a longer-term payment structure.
The 26-year-old Brazil international enjoyed an impressive campaign at Wolves, scoring 17 goals and registering six assists in all competitions last season.
Matheus Cunha arrives at Old Trafford having also spent time at Atletico Madrid, RB Leipzig and Hertha Berlin, and has earned 15 senior caps for Brazil – scoring his first international goal against Argentina in March.
After finalising the move, Cunha opened up on the reasons as to why he joined the club.
As revealed by the official Manchester United website, Cunha said, “It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player.

“Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt.

“I can’t wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my team-mates and prepare for the season ahead.
“All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top.”
Cunha becomes United’s first marquee arrival of the summer, and his signing marks a key step in the club’s plan to revamp their attacking options ahead of the new season.
