And now we have some more news in regards to the club looking to secure the future of another young talent at the club.

CentreDevils can exclusively reveal that Manchester United are set to begin contract talks with academy star Godwill Kukonki.

Sources tell CentreDevils that the young English defender has a big admirer in Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese head coach has been impressed with the centre-back’s training performances as well as in academy games.

In November, Kukonki was called up to train with the first team, and on December 4, he made his first appearance in the matchday squad against Arsenal.

At 6 feet 5 inches, Kukonki is a powerful presence in the back line even though he is only 17.

Back in November, Amorim made the following remarks regarding the defender: “He’s 16, but he impressed me a lot, so it’s also a sign to the youth players that they can be here”.

He followed up by saying: “If something happened with the first-team, they have to step up and I think he’s ready, he’s very adult to handle the Premier League’s demands”.

It now appears that Manchester United are looking to back the player further and provide him an extended stay at Old Trafford.
