Manchester United have seen several of their former players enter the world of coaching after hanging up their boots, some doing well, others not so much.
Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired from management back in 2013, four former United stars have returned to Old Trafford, taking on the hotseat.
Ryan Giggs, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and Ruud van Nistelrooy have all held either permanent or interim manager positions with United since the club’s last Premier League title.
Whilst Giggs has left the world of management, becoming Salford City’s sporting director, Solskjaer is enjoying success with Besiktas, Carrick is holding a Championship mid-table position with Middlesborough, with van Nistelrooy looking to depart a recently relegated Leicester.
However, one former United man has beaten van Nistelrooy to become the most recent ex-Red Devil to lose their managerial role.

Championship side Watford have now sacked manager Tom Cleverley after the side have come 14th in the league.
With only one point won in the final five games of the season, the club have decided to part ways with the former United midfielder who ended his playing career with The Hornets.
The former central midfielder came through the United academy, joining the senior squad in 2008, making 79 appearances with five goals and seven assists for the Red Devils.
However, his seven years in the senior squad mainly consisted of loan spells with clubs such as Leicester, Wigan, Aston Villa and Watford.
In 2015 Tom Cleverley made a permanent move from Old Trafford as a free transfer to Everton before going on loan once more to Watford, making his move permanent in 2017.
Since then, the former England international made 181 appearances for Watford, grabbing 19 goals and 15 assists before becoming their manager in 2023.
Now, he’s leaving Watford for the second time with thanks band praise being given to the 35-year-old by the club’s sporting director.
Issuing a statement about Cleverley’s departure, Sporting director Gian Luca Nani said: “The time has come for a change and to build on what we believe is a young and talented squad that will have benefited from the experience of the Championship this season.
“It has been a privilege to work closely with Tom; to understand how he sees the game and his enthusiasm for everything here. He deserves to be recognised for this and I’m sure he will have a bright future in the game.”
