Manchester United’s campaign may be one of the most forgettable in recent memory, but if there’s been one consistent light in the gloom, it’s been their captain.

Bruno Fernandes continues to carry this United team week in and week out, playing every minute like the club depends on him.

While Ruben Amorim’s side currently sit 15th in the Premier League table, Fernandes has racked up 19 goals and 18 assists in all competitions, putting together arguably the finest individual season of his career.

With a 3-0 first-leg lead over Athletic Club, United are just 90 minutes away from another European final and a shot at salvaging their season through the Europa League — and Bruno Fernandes has been at the heart of every step of that journey.

However, as the season winds down, there’s a fresh cloud of concern hanging over Old Trafford.

Reports from Saudi Arabia and the Daily Mail claim Al-Hilal are preparing a blockbuster offer to lure Fernandes to the Saudi Pro League.

The 29-year-old midfielder is said to be top of the wish list after the club missed out on Mohamed Salah and saw Neymar ruled out long term.

Saudi journalist Al Hanyan added fuel to the fire, reporting that Fernandes’ agent was in talks with Al-Hilal officials over a potential move — which would almost certainly make him United’s most expensive outgoing of all time.

While rumours of Fernandes leaving have circulated before — particularly around May 2024 — the midfielder quickly put those to bed by signing a new deal in August.

His message was simple: as long as United want him, he’s staying.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has weighed in to confirm that United’s position is unchanged.

The club consider Fernandes untouchable, with Amorim reportedly telling the board that the Portuguese international is “crucial” to his project going forward.

When rumours circulated that Real Madrid was interested in Fernandes, Ruben Amorim shut it down immediately.

When asked how he could be so certain, the former Sporting coach added: “He’s not going anywhere because I’ve already told him.”

Fernandes remains a target for the Saudi Private Investment Fund, which oversees the league and its top clubs, but the stance from Old Trafford is clear — he’s not for sale.

With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon and Champions League football still on the line, Fernandes’ focus is locked in on leading United out of their worst period in decades and back into Europe.
