It’s no news that Manchester United have had a disastrous season this year.
Despite an unbeaten run in the Europa League, The Red Devils have been knocked out of all domestic cups and sit in 14th in the Premier League.
Whilst this is their worst Premier League campaign to date, it’s only the latest disappointment in a run of declining form that’s taken shape over the last few years.
INEOS appointed Ruben Amorim as Manchester United’s head coach back in November, as the man to turn things around after he successfully did so at Sporting Lisbon.
However, Austria’s national team manager Ralf Rangnick has just taken swipes at his former club.

Ralf Rangnick takes aim at Manchester United

Rangnick has been in charge of the Austrian national team since leaving Old Trafford in 2022 after a six-month stint as the club’s caretaker manager.
He was expected to stay on with The Red Devils as an advisor to Erik ten Hag however decided to move on into international management.
During his short stint at Old Trafford, he helped United achieve a sixth place finish in the Premier League after taking over from Michael Carrick who in turn was holding the fort after Ole Gunnar Solksjaer left the club.
Now, speaking before Ruben Amorim’s men recorded an impressive win against Athletic Club last night, Rangnick commented on the issues with the club.

Rangnick highlights the issues and potential lifeline at Old Trafford

Speaking to Canal+, Rangnick commented: “In the end [when he left in 2022], few basic things needed to be changed and since then €700, if not €750 million spent on new players.”
He continued: “In the table, they are even significantly worse than back then, therefore, only with a win in the Europa League, still save the season because then they will actually be in the Champions League.
“Everything else would be a disappointment and yes it will be interesting to see what will happen.
“They have now signed a coach in the middle of the season, who plays with a back three or with five backs and the squad was built based on a four back system.
“This is what you can see when you see them play, especially in Premier League games against the opponents against which Manchester United normally has to win.
“Sure in the Europa League they have [beaten teams they should win against]. You have to say, usually with the result against Lyon, you are eliminated, they have to turn it around and of course the stadium had a huge effect.
“But it will be interesting against Bilbao.”
Obviously since then, United have beaten Athletic Club in the first leg, taking an advantage into the home fixture next week, setting up their spot in the final.
It’s looking extremely likely that they’ll be facing fellow struggling Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the final, with Spurs winning every meeting between the pair this season.
