Manchester United have identified a clear need to upgrade their attack with their current strikers failing to provide consistency up front.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have failed to reliably convert chances in the final third, with Hojlund experiencing a 21-game goal drought earlier in the season.

As such, fears began emerging amid the coaching staff that not only would be not be able to provide as United’s first-choice striker should, but also they could struggle to sell him off this summer.

Zirkzee on the other hand has gained Ruben Amorim’s confidence that he’ll be able to develop under the manager and grow into the squad.

However, another prolific goalscorer is needed in the meantime for United to bounce back after their dismal season.

Looking to replace Hojlund, Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap has emerged at the top of the shortlist with his release clause dropping to £40 million thanks to the club’s relegation to the Championship.

Delap is keen to have Champions League football, with United’s only chance at qualifying for the prestigious tournament coming from winning the Europa League.

As such, The Red Devils are looking for some alternatives in case they fail to sign Delap, with Give Me Sport reporting that Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrick Schick is emerging as a strong contender.

The Czech Republic international has been in fine form this season, grabbing 25 goals and an assist in 42 games for the German club.

Whilst the striker is still under contract until 2027, it’s understood that he would be available this summer for around £34 million, not much more than Delap.

However, with Schick being 29-years-old, he doesn’t fit in with INEOS’ recruitment profile, wanting to sign talented players under the age of 26 for their longevity at the club.

United’s push for Schick will entirely rely on the club’s ability to beat Athletic Club in the Semi-Final of the Europa League and go on to win the tournament, which in turn could also attract significant other interest to the club from top players.
