Manchester United’s goalkeeping department is set for a real shake-up this summer as club see a complete overhaul of their current shot stoppers.

Andre Onana has had an incredibly problematic season, with the Cameroon international having more mistakes than any other Premier League goalkeeper result in the opposition scoring.

As such, The Red Devils have been looking at potential replacements for Onana, looking to the likes of Parma star Zion Suzuki, AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, Brighton’s goalie Bart Verbruggen and Porto shot-stopper Diogo Costa.

Unfortunately, it looks as though United will also have to recruit more back-up keepers, with Altay Bayindir looking to find a new club in the summer in the bid to fight for more first team football.

Alongside him it’s also been reported that Tom Heaton will be hanging up his gloves at the age of 39 years old, with it thought that United could even offer Heaton a role in the coaching staff.

However, The Daily Mail has now reported that Heaton could extend his stay at Old Trafford even longer, still on the pitch.

With so much uncertainty around Onana and Bayindir, it’s understood that United are in talks to try and retain Heaton for an extra 12 months to lean on his experience.

Heaton’s23 year career in goal started in the Manchester United academy, looking likely to end at Old Trafford despite stints at Aston Villa, Burnley, Cardiff and QPR to name a few.

However, Heaton’s playing days could now see him don the gloves in the Premier League into his 40s as he considers his extension with the club.
