Manchester United have had a disastrous season with their striker department as Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have failed to provide consistency up front.

The pair have failed to provide consistent goal contributions, let alone goals, leading to Ruben Amorim and his men relying on Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho to grab their goals.

However, a recent stat from DataMB as reported by Attacking Football has revealed how dire the situation at Old Trafford actually is.

Rasmus Hojlund ranks worst of Premier League strikers

Manchester United’s first-choice striker, Hojlund sits in dead last for both goals and assists per 90 minutes played and for expected goals and assists per 90 minutes with both stats referring to Premier League play.

The Danish striker went a total of 20 games without any goal contributions, only scoring a game later for a 21 game goalless streak.

As such the club have fears they won’t be able to sell off their problematic attacker, especially not for any thing close to the £70 million fee they bought him for from Atalanta in 2023.

Unfortunately for United, their back-up striker is actually ranking as better, albeit not by much.

Manchester United’s other strike options

Joshua Zirkzee can be seen slightly higher up the graph, ranking in only just above Rasmus Hojlund in goals and assists per 90 minutes as second from bottom, but coming in fifth from bottom for expected goals and assists per 90 minutes.

This fits with the recent news that Ruben Amorim is confident that Zirkzee could fit into his side well with room for further development, wanting to retain him this summer.

Between the pair for expected goal contributions comes Southampton’s Cameron Archer, Crystal Palace’s Eddie Nketiah and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

This clearly highlights that United need to bring in a reliable striker with Liam Delap finding himself at the top of their shortlist.

The Ipswich Town striker sits significantly above the average line for both stats, although in the bottom half of both figures.

That said, a big factor of this could well come with Ipswich’s overall performance, being relegated with four games to spare, making his attacking stats slightly more impressive.
