Last summer, Manchester United sold Scotland international Scott McTominay to Napoli after a career best of ten goals and three assists in 43 games.

His move to Italy marks the first time McTominay has played for any club other than United, having come through The Red Devils academy, joining the youth side in 2013 at 16 years old.

Four years later in 2017, at the age of 20, the midfielder broke into the senior squad under Jose Mourinho, however he didn’t become a routine starter until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge in 2019.

Since making his senior debut, McTominay made 255 appearances for United, scoring 29 goals and grabbing eight assists, helping the side win the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, both under Erik ten Hag.

However, since leaving United last summer for £25 million, the 28-year-old has already surpassed his career best season of last year, grabbing 12 goals and four assists in only 32 games, helping Napoli fight for the top spot in Serie A.

So, with McTominay’s impressive form, it begs the question, were Manchester United right in selling Scott McTominay?
