Neom SC, a club based in the second tier of Saudi Arabian football, are showing concrete interest in the signing of Andre Onana, according to Santi Aouna.
Talks between Neom and Onana’s management are taking place behind the scenes, with Onana open to leaving Manchester United this summer.
This news follows weeks of links suggesting Ruben Amorim’s faith in the Cameroonian may have wilted.
Speaking just a few weeks ago, Amorim went on the defensive for his goalkeeper following two errors in the first leg of United’s Europa League quarter-final against Lyon.
“If you look at the season I’ve made more mistakes than them during these last games and during these last months,” he said.
“There’s nothing I can say to Andre in this moment that will help him, so the most important thing is to be natural and then when the time comes I will choose the best XI to play. But I’m really confident in Andre.”
But despite the words of encouragement, stories linking Onana away from Old Trafford this summer have raged on.
Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcia has been linked, with the 23-year-old available on the cheap from RCD Espanyol this summer if a cut-price release clause is triggered.
Portugal number one Diogo Costa has also been linked, with any move for the FC Porto captain likely to require movement the other way in the goalkeeper department at United.
Onana was signed from Inter Milan in 2023 for around £45m, but has failed to find form this season.
Multiple high-profile mistakes have rocked the 29-year-old’s security in between the sticks at Old Trafford, with a possible move to Saudi Arabia now on the cards.
Neom SC have already achieved promotion to the Saudi Pro League next season, but it is not yet clear what type of money they would be able to offer to United.
