Andre Onana is truly having a season to forget with Manchester United. His questionable decision-making has led the club to sit in 14th place in the Premier League.

It was recently released that Onana is at the top of the list of Premier League goalkeepers to make mistakes that have directly resulted in goals conceded.

And honestly, this comes as no surprise.

United’s recent Premier League clash with Newcastle saw the first-choice dropped in place of Altay Bayindir, with Ruben Amorim wanting to rest the Cameroon international.

Unfortunately, Bayindir couldn’t capitalise on his chance to go above Onana in the pecking order, with United losing 4-1 with the back-up goalkeeper also making some howlers.

As such United are looking at players like Aaron Ramsdale and James Trafford to replace Onana in the summer, but until then, he still appears to be Amorim’s first choice.

That said, news has now emerged that Onana may not bounce back into the squad for the second leg of United’s Europa League clash with Lyon.

Andre Onana could miss second leg against Lyon

In the first leg in France which ended 2-2, Onana was directly responsible for both of Lyon’s goals, ending the chance of an advantage going into the second leg at home.

Firstly he failed to save a wayward freekick which leisurely bounced into the far side of the goal, and secondly parried a shot onto Rayan Cherki to tap in.

Now, Manchester Evening News has reported that Onana is still unsure of his place for the midweek match.

It’s understood that Amorim could give Bayindir a second chance to secure a win against Lyon to keep United in the Europa League.

With Bayindir’s lack of game time and Onana’s consistent mistakes, it’s hard to say which would be the better option right now with progression in Europe this week being essential for fighting towards Champions League football next season.
