Manchester United are looking at increasing their ticket prices in another effort of easing financial pressures for the club.
United’s new decision comes on the back of recent comments from Sir Jim Ratcliffe that without the measures the club would be bust by Christmas 2025.
Ticket prices have already been targeted by INEOS this season in one of their measures taken, cutting concessions making every ticket £66 irrelevant of age.
Now, The Athletic has reported that season ticket prices will rise by roughly five per cent next season.
This means tickets will have an average increase of £2.50 per game.
However, there will be a price freeze for season ticket holders under the age of 16.
Unfortunately for fans this is the third year in a row that ticket prices have increased after 11 years of no increase.
The report also explains however that the recently cut concessions will be reinstated, however there will be a further change to the configuration of some seats in the stadium.
It’s understood that seats immediately around the dugout will be converted to hospitality and will have a premium price attached to them, which is similar to changes recently carried out at Barcelona and Chelsea.
For non-season ticket holders, matches will fall into different price bands according to who United are playing, with an increased cost of tickets for these match-by-match purchases.
However, despite the increase, United’s Fans’ Advisory Board (FAB) and Fans Forum have expressed relief with the outcome of the price hike.
The Athletic reported the FAB as commenting: “While we did not get the freeze we argued for, we are relieved that the club was persuaded to limit the increases to the same percentage rise as recent seasons, and we are pleased they froze prices for our youngest fans.
“We also shared our concerns over policy changes and advised against any immediate changes without consultation including those to minimum usage, match categorisation, concessions and relocations. However, we welcome the club’s renewed commitment not to make any such future changes without consultation with fans including through MUST, FAB and the Fans’ Forum.
“We acknowledge that the senior leadership of the club, including Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Omar Berrada, made themselves available throughout the process and the club were well informed of fans’ feelings when making their decisions.”
