Bruno Fernandes discusses the strain on Manchester United squad

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes comments on the current strain felt by Ruben Amorim’s squad due to injuries.

Manchester United have their hopes of retaining their FA Cup title shattered by Fulham as The Red Devils were knocked out in penalties this weekend.

Unfortunately for Ruben Amorim, United’s poor form is continuing with the club’s only chance of silverware this season being the Europa League.

After United’s loss to Fulham, captain Bruno Fernandes fielded questions in a post-match interview, addressing the strain the current squad are under.

Manchester United’s current injury crisis

Manchester United are currently facing yet another injury crisis, with top stars like Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo ruled out for the rest of the season.

Other big names like Mason Mount, Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo are still yet to return to the pitch, although are expected to appear before the season is out.

As such, Fernandes explained the strain this has put on the United players and how they’re feeling.

Speaking after the clash with Fulham, Fernandes commented: “We know that we had many injuries in this period and we don’t have as many players and we’ve been playing almost always with the same players for long spells.”

Opening up about the feelings of the squad and here to go next, the club’s captain commented: “It’s been difficult. We now just need to recover, focus ourselves as best we can to get to our best, fresh legs to the next games.”

Bruno Fernandes looks to the Europa League

Manchester United’s next match sees them travel to Spain to take on Real Sociedad in the Europa League round of 16.

Fernandes spoke cautiously of the fixture, commenting: “It’s going to be a tough one – a Spanish team that plays brilliant football, with very, very good players up front and very high quality coming out from the back.”

He continued: “So we need to be fresh to run again because they will make us run, and then when we have the ball, we have to make them run, too.

“Now we look forward to the rest of the season, with the main focus now on the next game in a competition where we want to go forward. It’s one of our goals for this season to try to get a trophy.”
