It’s not been a day of good news for Manchester United fans.
The team are out of the FA Cup and have fresh injury concerns on another player after the game.
One thing that was abundantly clear from the game is that the current Manchester United players are not of the same calibre of previous generations.
If the goal is to win the English Premier League again, the current crop are a long way from that.
So while there was some bad news, there has also been some good news.
And it’s in the shape of a new signing for Manchester United.
Just yesterday, we learnt that Manchester United signed Jed Bangura from Oxford United.
The midfielder will be joining at the under-14 level and follows a series of signings aimed at boosting the academy to help provide talent to the first team in years to come.
And today another player has signed a contract to join the club at the same level.

Marley Irving has put pen to paper and joined the Manchester United academy.
Irving shared an image from his Instagram story of the signing and confirmed the news.
For those unaware, young Marley Irving is a goalkeeper and is joining from Carlisle United, where he played for their youth team.
Irving comes highly rated and will be looking to further his development in Manchester.
With United naming two goalkeepers on the bench in recent games, it seems that the club is putting stock in their goalkeeping ranks.
Andre Onana has been putting in a number of mixed performances since he joined the club from Inter Milan and it must have crossed the hierarchy’s mind to think of an alternative player between the sticks.
While Marley Irving has a long way to go before he can be talked about for the first time, the youngster will be hoping that his career at Old Trafford becomes far more assured that what the current incumbent has shown so far.
