Manchester United secured a crucial 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford despite a nervy encounter.

Jaden Philogene opened the scoring after capitalising on a mistake.

However, United responded through Sam Morsy’s own goal and Matthijs de Ligt’s strike.

Patrick Dorgu was shown a straight red card just before halftime.

Ipswich certainly made the most of their advantage as Philogene grabbed his second.

However, Harry Maguire’s 47th-minute header sealed all three points for the hosts, lifting them to 14th in the Premier League table.

Speaking after the match, Ruben Amorim praised his team’s fight but admitted frustration over defensive errors.

“With the situations of the game, of course, you get a little frustrated,” Amorim told TNT Sports.

“But since the first minute, I felt the players were fine, trying to play.

“We managed to score two goals, and then the sending-off changed the game a little bit.

“But the fight the guys showed… and our fans helped us a lot, so I think we fully deserved the three points.”

Rio Ferdinand mentions four players unsuitable to Ruben Amorim’s methods

Despite the win, Rio Ferdinand believes several United players don’t suit Amorim’s tactical demands.

The former Manchester United player ripped into Andre Onana for his woeful performance.

However, he pointed to De Ligt, Maguire, Rasmus Hojlund, and Joshua Zirkzee as players who lack the physicality and dynamism required.

Asked whether Zirkzee fits into that mold, Ferdinand replied: ‘No… De Ligt, Maguire, Hojlund, it’s not their game.

“So I think he needs to find those type of players with the capabilities of carrying out not only tactically what he wants.

“But the physicality is equally important.

“This United team aren’t a mobile, dynamic team,” Ferdinand told TNT Sports.

“They don’t have the ability to overrun teams physically.”

He added that Amorim’s Sporting side was built on athleticism, something United currently lack.

Ferdinand believes the Portuguese coach needs to overhaul the squad in the summer to bring in players capable of executing his high-intensity system.
