Elizabeth Ammon writes that Ashworth will “work with the county as a voluntary adviser on a range of matters including high performance, drawing on his experience in football.”

The Englishman is already familiar with the club, having joined their cricket audit committee in 2021 in an honorary role overseeing their elite teams.

The Times’ report also states that Warwickshire are set to announce a new performance director in the coming days.

Although Ashworth was not considered for the role due to its relatively low salary compared to his previous positions.

The new performance director will oversee permanent appointments for the head coach and assistant coach positions.

Why it went wrong for Dan Ashworth at Manchester United

The former United technical director left Old Trafford after just five months, with his departure costing the club £4.1 million.

Tensions between Ashworth and Sir Jim Ratcliffe were a key factor in his exit.

The 53-year-old refused to trim staff members from the footballing side of the club as requested by the INEOS chief.

The saga cost the club around £4.1 million, making recent job cuts seem insignificant in comparison.

It follows the expensive cycle of extending Erik ten Hag’s contract, then sacking him for Ruben Amorim.

United earlier confirmed the permanent appointment of 38-year-old Christopher Vivell as their permanent director of recruitment.
