Manchester United wonderkid called up by Thailand national squad

It seems that the Thailand side have taken their opportunity to bring the youngster into their national setup.

It’s not every day that you hear about a Manchester United player being called up by a Thailand national squad.

But that’s exactly what has happened this week.

And it seems that it could lead to an appearance in a prestigious tournament if all goes to plan.

But who is the player and why is he set to play for Thailand?

The player in question is one of the most exciting young talents on the Manchester United books at present.

Silva Mexes joined Manchester United in May 2024 and was already making headlines for his background.

That’s because Mexes is the son of former Wales striker Robert Earnshaw.

He has already shown some of his own attacking talents when he scored a wonder goal for the youth side against a Bayern Munich youth team earlier this season.

But what is not as well known is that Silva Mexes is eligible to play for the Thailand national side through his mother.

And it seems that the Thailand under-17 side have taken their opportunity to bring young Mexes into their national setup.

Footage has been shared by the official Thai national team Instagram page of the Manchester United wonderkid training for the Thai under-17 squad ahead of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U17 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Set to start on the 3rd April 2025, the AFC U17 Asian Cup will be the 20th edition of the tournament – one which Thailand won in 1998.

Thailand will face will face hosts Saudi Arabia, China, and Uzbekistan in the group stages.

Silva Mexes is still just 14 years old – so will be playing at a much higher age group that usual.

It just shows the level of talent that he has that he’s being earmarked to play at such a high level at such a young age.

With the final squad not announced as of yet, it’s unclear whether Mexes will be selected to play in the tournament.

However, with the official national team IG page sharing player cam footage of the young United star, it’s a clear hint that they’re expecting to have him involved in one way or another.
