RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba has emerged as a solid option, though United face stiff competition for his signature.
Initial interest in the defender was reported on CentreDevils, back in 2023.
The 22-year-old came through the ranks at Lyon before joining Leipzig in 2023 for €25 million.
After an impressive debut season in Germany, he was handed a new contract in October, keeping him tied to the club until 2029.
That deal includes a €90 million release clause, though Transfermarkt currently values him at around €50 million.

Castello Lukeba had already been on United’s radar under Erik ten Hag.
One of the Dutchman’s staff reportedly described him as a “generational” talent.
German journalist Christian Falk has now confirmed that United remain in the mix for the defender.
Writing for The Daily Briefing, Falk named United as one of several clubs interested in signing Lukeba this summer.
Chelsea, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are also in the race.
However, the player himself favours a move to the Bernabeu.
However, if Madrid opt against making a bid, it could open the door for United to step in and make their move.
Given the club’s current struggles, though, they may struggle to compete with other top European sides in the battle for his signature.
