The Dutchman is set to name Rene Hake – who previously worked under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United as his assistant.

Robin van Persie began his coaching journey at Feyenoord after retiring in 2019, initially assisting then-manager Dick Advocaat.

He later became co-head coach of the U16s before moving up to the U18s and U19s.

After a successful spell developing young talent, he took on his first senior management role with Heerenveen.

His first season in charge has been promising, with Heerenveen sitting ninth in the Eredivisie and pulling off a notable win over PSV in December.

During his playing career, Van Persie enjoyed two spells at Feyenoord, scoring 46 goals in 122 appearances and winning three trophies, including the UEFA Cup in 2002.

Now, he looks set to return once again – this time as the club’s new head coach.

Should he return to Feyenoord, he will be in line to face Arsenal in the Champions League last-16.

After leaving the Dutch side as a player in 2004, Van Persie joined Arsenal and spent eight years in London.

He then moved on to join United in 2012 and stayed at Old Trafford for three years before signing for Fenerbahce.

The ex-striker then ended his playing career back at Feyenoord.

It will certainly be interesting to see how well van Persie does at his new club.
