Christian Eriksen was one of many absentees as Manchester United faced Tottenham last weekend.

Ruben Amorim made it clear before the game that injuries had disrupted his plans.

United’s squad was heavily depleted, with 10 players sidelined.

Amad Diallo’s season ended due to ankle ligament damage.

Lisandro Martinez also remains out long-term with a torn cruciate ligament.

Kobbie Mainoo faces up to six weeks out, leaving United short in the midfield department.

Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer were also missing with minor issues.

Leny Yoro and absence of Christian Eriksen meant Amorim had to name seven academy players on the bench.

Now Eriksen has provided fans with an update on his status.

Many expect him to leave this summer, with United seeking a replacement.

With months left in Manchester, Eriksen will want to play as much as possible.

His experience could be key as United battle injuries and struggle in the league.

After missing the Spurs game, Eriksen took to Instagram to reassure supporters.

“Looking ahead,” he wrote, adding a praise emoji.

He then sent a message of thanks to fans.

“I just wanted to thank everyone for the get-well messages.

“I picked up a virus like many people do at this time of year.

“Nothing serious and soon ready to get back to training!”

If he returns soon, Eriksen could be vital for Amorim.

With Amad and Mainoo out, United lack options in the No.10 role.

Sitting 15th in the league, they need every bit of help they can get.

At 33, Eriksen has been tipped to retire.

But a move to a slower league could extend his career.

When on the ball in the final third, Eriksen remains United’s best creator.

His vision and technical ability were clear against Southampton.

United fans will hope his farewell tour includes more moments of brilliance.
