Manchester United have strengthened their first team with the signing of Ayden Heaven.
The 18-year-old centre back has joined on a free transfer from Arsenal.
Despite being used primarily in the Arsenal academy, Heaven has been given a first team squad position at Old Trafford.
The powers that be at Manchester United see the player as someone who will provide backup to the first team starters.
With Ruben Amorim employing a three man defence, you need plenty of centre backs in case of injuries to cover that position.
The days are seemingly numbered for the likes of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans, so the signing of Ayden Heaven is clearly one for the present and the future.
For those unaware, Ayden Heaven is a left footed centre back.
That would indicate that he’d be a deputy for Lisandro Martinez, who occupies that left centre-back role.
However, even Lisandro Martinez has had his fair few injuries in recent seasons, so this should see Ayden Heaven getting first team opportunities regularly with The Red Devils.
And just to emphasise his first team role, Manchester United have officially provided Ayden Heaven with a first team squad number.
Ayden Heaven will be wearing the number 26 on the back of his shirt.
This move symbolises a slight difference from the purchase of Chido Obi-Martin from Arsenal back in October.
Although Obi-Martin is also seen as someone who can get to the first team sooner rather than later, the fact that Ayden Heaven already has a first team number means that he’s a first team member from now.
Whereas Obi-Martin is expected to be a first team player sooner rather than later.
MUFC will be looking to see if Heaven makes the squad for the clash against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford tomorrow or if the management will hold back for now.
