Manchester United continue their pursuit of a left wing-back to fit Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.
The left wing-back has shown to be a position of priority in transfer window.
Diogo Dalot has been tried and tested as left wing-back, but the experiment has since failed.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes, an early target, appears out of reach as he nears a new deal in France.
United have instead focused on Patrick Dorgu, Lecce’s 20-year-old defensive talent, as a prime alternative.
Dorgu has impressed this season, playing both as a left wing-back and occasionally as a right-winger.
Lecce initially set a €40 million price tag, but United hope to secure a deal for around €37 million (£30m).

The club’s previous two bids were rejected, though officials are confident a third offer will succeed soon.
A resolution is expected within the next 24-48 hours, but United remain prepared with contingency plans.
One such option is former academy graduate Alex Carreras, now enjoying an excellent campaign at Benfica.
The 21-year-old left-back was sold to Benfica last summer but has a buy-back clause in his contract.
United scouts have monitored Alex Carreras this season, with reports lauding his performances in Portugal.
Interest from the Red Devils in resigning Carreras, was initially reported on CentreDevils in November.
The Athletic claims United have contacted Carreras’ camp about a potential move this month.
However, sources close to the player indicate he is not considering a January switch to the Premier League.
While a summer transfer remains possible, Carreras appears content to stay at Benfica for now.
Dorgu, meanwhile, is reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford, keeping United focused on closing the deal.
With time ticking down to the February 3 deadline, Amorim will hope for reinforcements sooner rather than later.
