The future of Marcus Rashford has been up in the air since mid December when he announced he wanted a new challenge.

After being left out of the squad repeatedly, Europe’s elite clubs have been flocking, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan all declaring interest and meeting with Rashford’s agent.

Other clubs like West Ham, Como and Monaco have also waded into the race, however, Rashford is prioritising a Champions League-level club to kick-start his career at the top level.

Unfortunately for Rashford however, his mammoth salary of £325,000 per week is becoming a real sticking point for most clubs.

The issues facing Marcus Rashford leaving Manchester United

AC Milan withdrew from the race with Rashford’s salary being over double their current highest earner, Alvaro Morata on £150,000 per week.

Initially, some clubs have looked for United to contribute to his wages whilst on loan, however, the player’s wage would then be his new club’s responsibility at the time of purchase.

Due to this, Florian Plettenberg has reported that a move away from Manchester United is becoming increasingly unlikely.

Despite Dortmund wanting to secure a move by Thursday and Barcelona agreeing personal terms with the striker, with no financial agreement with United, a move away is looking less likely.

It is worth noting however that Dortmund, Barca and Milan are reportedly still pushing to sign the star, however, with only two weeks left of the transfer season, the reality of any club getting a deal across the line remains to be seen.
