It’s a sad day for Manchester United fans as Denis Law has passed away aged 84.

The United legend was the last surviving member of the “holy trinity” of Sir Bobby Charlton and George Best.

In a statement, his family said: “It is with a heavy heart that we tell you our father Denis Law has sadly passed away. He fought a tough battle, but finally, he is now at peace.

“We would like to thank everyone who contributed to his wellbeing and care, past and much more recently.

“We know how much people supported and loved him and that love was always appreciated and made the difference.”

Law was an incredible goalscorer for The Red Devils, grabbing 237 goals and 12 assists in 404 games for United, having broken the British transfer record in 1962.

Two years later, the Scotland international won the coveted Ballon d’Or, being the only Scottish player to win it to date and the first Manchester United player to do so. In following years, Charlton and Best joined him in winning the award in 1966 and 1968 respectively.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo has joined the trio by winning the award whilst at Old Trafford.

In 1963 Law helped United win the FA Cup, kickstarting his trophy cabinet. Over his time at the club he added two First Division titles, two Charity Shields and the European Cup as the first English side to win the tournament.

After eleven years at Old Trafford, Law returned to Manchester City for a second stint, retiring after a single season with The Citizens aged 34.

During his career, Law made 55 appearances for Scotland grabbing 30 goals with a single assist.

Unfortunately back in 2021, the United legend was diagnosed with dementia.

In a statement from Manchester United following his passing, the club have commented: “Everyone at Manchester United is mourning the loss of Denis Law, the King of the Stretford End, who has passed away, aged 84.

“He will always be celebrated as one of the club’s greatest and most beloved players.

“The ultimate goal-scorer, his flair, spirit and love for the game made him the hero of a generation. Our deepest condolences go out to Denis’s family and many friends. His memory will live on forever more.”
