Manchester United recall their young striker

21-year-old striker Joe Hugill has been with Wigan Athletic on loan for the first half of the season. However, the youngster is now set to return to Carrington as United have ended the loan deal.

Wigan Athletic have officially announced the move, posting on their website: “We can confirm that striker Joe Hugill has returned to Manchester United from his loan spell at Wigan Athletic.

“The 21-year-old leaves the Brick Community Stadium having made 18 appearances across all competitions. The highlight of his loan spell came back in September when he netted a brace in the 4-0 victory at Bristol Rovers.

“The Club would like to thank Joe for his contributions during his time with Latics and wish him well for the future.”

However, he may not be back with The Red Devils for long.

A second loan for Joe Hugill

Samuel Luckhurst has reported that United have recalled the youngster to send him back out on loan.

Whilst Hugill grabbed five goals and an assist in 18 games for Wigan, he was left out of the squad for a total of 12 matches, being an unused substitute in a further match.

With the loan being agreed to give Hugill more game time to develop further, Luckhurst’s report suggests that United are unhappy with the opportunities given to their loaned man so far with Wigan.

United will now be looking for another club to offer the star more first-team football for the second half of the season, however, who that club will be remains to be seen.
