Rio Ferdinand reveals message for Manchester United star

The Manchester United legend didn’t hold back on what he had to say.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he would have made his feelings clear to one player in the locker room after the 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

Ruben Amorim’s side ended 2024 in disappointing form after four straight defeats across all competitions.

United responded to their 2-0 loss to Newcastle with a strong performance against Liverpool at Anfield.

Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring for United before Cody Gakpo equalized for the hosts.

Mohamed Salah’s penalty put Liverpool ahead, but Amad Diallo rescued a point for United late on.

The result leaves United 13th in the Premier League, 13 points behind fourth-place Chelsea and seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand weighed in on the closing moments at Anfield when United could have stolen the win.

Bruno Fernandes played Joshua Zirkzee through on goal in injury time.

The Dutch striker opted to pass to Harry Maguire instead of shooting.

Zirkzee’s pass bobbled enroute to Maguire, who then fired over the bar from close range.

Ferdinand admitted he would have confronted Zirkzee in the dressing room if he were part of the team.

When asked if Zirkzee would have apologised to Maguire, he said on Rio Ferdinand Presents: ‘After all of it, I would have gone in the changing room and gone, “Bruv, what type of stupidness was that?!

“What type of pass was that?! We could have won the game!”’”

Ferdinand acknowledged Zirkzee’s lack of confidence but stressed the need for quality in key moments.

Zirkzee has faced criticism since joining United last summer, struggling to make an impact in the final third.

However, Amorim defended Zirkzee’s decision to pass rather than shoot.

“At his post-match press conference, Amorim said: ‘For me, I think it was the perfect decision.

“He can shoot but he put the ball more in the centre for one guy is running back.’”

The United boss praised Zirkzee’s awareness despite the outcome.
