Concerns have been raised that Manchester United could lose one of their top young stars as contract negotiations have stalled.
Last season saw Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo break through into the starting eleven, even going so far as being nominated for last year’s Golden Boy award.
However, with Erik ten Hag now gone and Ruben Amorim now in place following significantly poor results, everything is once more in the air.
The duo now find themselves battling to remain in the squad. Garnacho is having to adapt to his natural position being on the wing, however needs to convert to a more defensive winger or move more central.
Mainoo on the other hand is slightly more stable, with his defensive midfield role still applicable under Amorim’s system, with Manuel Ugarte playing by his side.
However, United are now facing the potential of losing Mainoo who was once deemed “untouchable” as his contract negotiations stall.

Chelsea look to swoop for Kobbie Mainoo as contract talks stall
Kobbie Mainoo is currently contracted with The Red Devils until June 2027, however, United were hoping to lock the 19-year-old down for even longer.
United have been looking to offer Mainoo a new contract which reflects his status as an England international and a regular at Old Trafford.
However, the club are restricted with what they can offer, as they look to reduce their wage spending, with stars like Casemiro and Marcus Rashford on upwards of £300,000 per week.
The Daily Mail has now reported that the discussions with Mainoo have come to a “stalemate”, with Mainoo’s representatives putting alerts out to Europe’s elite that he may be available.
Chelsea are reportedly leading the race for the youngster should he become available, however, they’ll face stiff competition.
Whilst there’s no confirmation that Mainoo is close to leaving just yet, the report explains that the midfielder is concerned about the state of the club and is worried about his chances of playing Champions League football next year.
Unfortunately, the financial pressures of the club could force United’s hand, with a sale of Mainoo constituting as pure profit towards the club’s PSR compliance.
