Lisandro Martinez has had to pull out of the Argentine national squad for this international break.
The two-week period has begun where all top-tier leagues get paused for international fixtures.
Martinez was all set to head to Argentina to join the squad for their World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Paraguay and Peru.
Argentina currently sits at the top of the group with eight games left to play. Wins in the next two games could set the side up comfortably 12 points above the qualification cut-off, taking pressure off of their bigger games still to come.
However, Martinez will not be able to contribute to the side’s defensive battles this time out.

The news comes from Argentine reporter Gaston Edul who covers the Argentinian national squad.
The reason for Lisandro Martinez bowing out of international duty
Edul has reported that Martinez has picked up a knock whilst with Manchester United which is the reason for his withdrawal.
The knock took place in United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City despite him playing the full 90 minutes.
As he managed to get through the full game seemingly unscathed, the news comes as a bit of a surprise.
It’s unknown as of yet the extent of the injury, however, Martinez will be hoping it would be a serious injury, ruling him out of Ruben Amorim’s first senior team selection on 24th November against Ipswich Town.
It’s most likely that his withdrawal from his national duties is a precautionary move to not aggravate any knock any further.
Martinez was a part of Argentina’s 2022 World Cup winning squad and their two-time Copa America title victories in 2020/21 and 2023/24. No doubt that his presence will be missed by Argentina, however, his recovery is clearly the priority.
