Ruud van Nistelrooy has officially left Manchester United after a second stint at the club. Despite a successful run as United’s interim manager, Rio Ferdinand has commented on why he thinks he was let go.

Ruben Amorim touched down in Manchester yesterday to tart his new role as head coach. United chiefs Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox greeted Amorim on his arrival at Carrington, welcoming the new manager.

With him comes six of his backroom staff from Sporting to replace some of the current coaches, analysts and sports scientists.

However, this meant that Ruud van Nistelrooy, Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel have all been let go by the club.

Van Nistelrooy stepped up to interim manager following the sacking of Erik ten Hag, helping to turn United around.

During his brief tenure, The Red Devils were unbeaten, getting three wins and a draw with 11 goals to help the side make their way back up the league table.

However, another club legend, Rio Ferdinand has now voiced his thoughts on why Amorim didn’t want the legendary striker as part of his coaching staff.

Rio Ferdinand comments on Ruud van Nistelrooy’s dismissal

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former defender commented: “I think (for) the manager (Amorim) it’s not an easy transition to go in and have, sitting next to you on the side-line at Old Trafford, one of the most prolific strikers (in the club’s history).”

“The fans love him. They loved him before (his interim spell), they love him even more now.

“And any turns of results or bumps in the road, they’ll say to get Ruud in as a manager.”

For Amorim, letting Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff go allows him to have a fresh start at the club, with his tactics and all his coaches on board, having worked under him before.
