Manchester United’s August signing of Sekou Kone from Malian side Guidars FC could turn out to be a masterstroke.

The highly-rated 18-year-old defensive midfielder was brought in for a modest £1 million, fending off interest from Liverpool and Wolves.

After impressing at the U17 World Cup last year, where he helped Mali to a third-place finish, Kone caught the eye of United scouts.

Though initially earmarked for the academy, Kone’s rapid development has caught Erik ten Hag’s attention, leading to growing speculation that he could make his senior debut sooner than expected.

Although originally planned to settle into United’s academy, reports now suggest Kone could make a faster transition to the first team.

Samuel Luckhurst reported that Kone will begin training with the U18s but is expected to feature for the U21s soon.

United fans are eagerly anticipating his development and potential impact at the club.

With potential squad rotations ahead, United fans may see the Malian talent in action soon.

But what is it about Kone that has sparked such excitement at Old Trafford?

His profile as a player and the current issues within United’s midfield suggest he could make an impact sooner than many expected.
